Myanmar army has arrested and interrogated a staff of township administration, twelve IDP relief volunteers, and two drivers in Kyauktaw township since April 4 shortly after they collected rice from the city administrator.

The aid volunteers came from Nyaung Chung IDP camp, where 1,000 refugees take shelters, after the township administer called them to collect 150 bags of rice before all offices were close in water festival period.

The arrested IDP camp aid volunteers are Lin Lin Chay, 15, U Min Soe, 30, Maung Hla Win, 18, Pru Thee, 18, U Soe Moe Htay, 28, Kyaw Kyaw Naing, 30, Maung Mae Tan, 30, U Kyaw Hlaing, 36, Maung Myo Kyaw, 24, Than Hlaing, 26, Tun Tun Naing, 25, Kyaw Moe Hlaing, 32, a staff of administration office, and two drivers.

They are detained in the military base of command and control center known as Sakakha 9 in Kyauktaw.

Nyang Chung IDP camp is recognized by the government and provide race and cash to the IDPs. The 150 bags of rice they brought are provided by ministry of social, welfare, and resettlement.

Now, over 1,000 refugees face shortage of foods after their camp’s relief team members are arrested and confiscated the rice.

An officer of the township administration who wants to remain an anonymous said, “These relief rations are given to the refugees by the government. If the soldiers have questions, they should contact us first instead of detaining our staff and the volunteers. They come to here to collect the rice because we called them to come.”

Myanmar soldiers violate every law and right of citizens in Rakhine State since no one is accountable for the crimes they commit.

Government even fuel the security forces violence and lawlessness. It will never end unless international community pressurize the armed force to respect basic human whereas the government sign for it and has obligation as member nation of the United Nations.
