Thousands of Villagers Fleeing While Myanmar Army Stepping Up Clearance Operation on West Side of May Yu River After 4 Civilians Were Injured by Shells Fired From Myanmar Army in Rakhine State

Local people reported Myanmar navy landing craft dropped of hundreds of troops in the west side of May Yu River, and some navy are reaching to the southeast of river. Thousands of villagers are fleeing in fear of Myanmar soldiers when they are entering and searching the villages. “The soldiers fired the guns to the farmers and villagers yesterday when they were in the farms and fishing in the river. Thousands of villagers from nearby villages were fleeing yesterday,” said Aung Hla Tun* from Aung Si Kone village in Rathedaung township.

He said the navy dropped off 100 soldiers near Kyaung Taung village and 60 more soldiers in Aung Si Kone village yesterday. He said the navy landing crafts are reaching to Tha Mee Hla village and docking in the river. 

Sixty Myanmar troops slept in Kan Pyin village last night. They are reaching to Pyin Wan village this morning. All villagers are fleeing from these two villages as well as neighboring villages of Pyin Chay, Doe Wae Chaung, Zaydi Pyin, and Aung Si Kone. 

Hundreds of Myanmar troops have been stationing in Aung Zay Kone village for months. 

“Myanmar navy are sending more reinforcement troops in the west side of river. They will attack AA from the east side of May Yu Mountain range when hundreds of troops are fighting in the west of the mountain and on the highway in Maungdaw township,” a Rakhine analyst said. 

According to the villagers in Aung Si Kone areas, there are not many AA fighters in the island and flat villages but some mine planters.
“We are in very danger zones. We live up with imminent threat of our lives. Regardless of our loss of properties in this conflict, our lives are uncertain and waiting to be killed. When AA set remote mines and kill soldiers, Myanmar soldiers turn and kill us. When Myanmar soldiers come to our villages, they search, question, arrest, and kill us. We are casted in the middle of the two forces (Myanmar army and Arakan Army,)” U Aung Hla Tun said. 
A shell fired from Navy landed in Kyaung Taung village yesterday and wounded Maung Yae Naing Lin, 1, U Soe Aung Pru, 69, U U Shwe Soe, 63, and Ko Kyaw Soe Ti, 27. 

The navy fired shells, artilleries, and machine guns to several villages yesterday in the west side of May Yu River without having any military clash with AA. 

A local human rights documentation institute—Arakan Information Center (AIC) reports until July 2020 Myanmar army has killed 285 civilians, injured 570, and arrested 606 villagers since the military operation has been launching in Rakhine State and Paletwa township in Chin State in January 2019. 

AIC reports it has recorded 45 villagers have been disappeared and 233,451 civilians have been displaced until July 2020.
