A 5 Years Old Boy and 15 Years Old Teenager Are Killed By A Left-Over Shell Explosion and Wounded 4 MoreTeenagers in Rakhine State, Myanmar

A left-over shell explosion killed two boys and injured 4 more teenagers in Kat Chaung Village in Rathedaung township on August 1, 2020.

A 15 Years old boy was killed on the spot by a left-over shell explosion and a 5 years child died at Sittway hospital and wounded y more teenagers including in Kat Chaung village in Rathedaung township in Rakhine State yesterday evening. 

Nay Myo Lin, 15, was killed on the spot and Myo Naing Oo, and Myo Naing Oo, 5, died at the Sittway hospital at 10.15 am today. 

Myo Naing Oo, 5, Zaw Naing, 13, Phyo Nyein Lin, 13, and Kyaw Myint Than, 17, and Nay Toe Lin, 10, were seriously injured. Three boys were taken to to Sittway hospital where Nyo Naing Oo died. 

“An unexploded shell was found between U Gar and Kat Chaung villages a couple days ago. A man from the village took the shell to his home and hiding. Then his son and friends discovered the shell and played. Then it exploded and killed a boy on the spot and Myo Naing Oo died at Sittway hospital at 10.15 am today,” said village administrator U Tun Hlaing. 

He said, “The shell was left upside down and unexploded in the field between Kat Chaung  and U Gar villages. A villager picked it up and brought to his resident. Many shells were landed near Kat Chaung and U Gar villages fired from Myanmar navy and the military base 232 from early this month and late last month.”

Several children were killed when they picked up and playing the left-over-unexploded shells last year. 

There are many unexploded shells and landmines placed in the fields, mountains, and near the brooks all over Rakhine State.

Two villagers were killed and a man was injured by the landmine explosion in Ann township last week.

A woman’s right leg was completely cut off by a mine explosion in the bush in Maybon township last month when she was collecting vegetables.
