Sixty soldiers from Light Infantry Division 55 and Mruak U based Light Infantry Battalion 337 set fire Lakka village, Mrauk U township, at 1.45 PM on May 16. Many houses were burned down.

“About 60 solders came down to Tin Nyo villager earlier morning and heard gunfire and explosion. Then they jumped over to Lakka village and set fire,” a villager who does not want to mention his name for security reason said.

Mrauk U township lawmaker U Thar Tun Sein confirmed the fire. He said he saw the smoke of the fire in the village.

Dozens of villagers were arrested by the soldiers last year. Three villagers were tortured and killed in the military custody during the interrogation.

Another village in Minbya township, Nga Sa Yin Chaung, was fired by the Myanmar soldiers last week.
